Ester Lourenço embarks on an MSc journey in geology at University of Zaragoza

The journey so far

We are excited to share the latest update about Ester Lourenço, a talented Mozambican geologist who has made remarkable strides in her academic and research journey. After graduating from Universidade Eduardo Mondlane (UEM) earlier this year and supporting the Paleo-Primate Project Gorongosa at Gorongosa National Park, Ester has now begun her MSc in Geology at the Universidad de Zaragoza (University of Zaragoza), Spain.

Field classes and hands-on experience

: Fieldwork is a crucial component of the MSc program, and Ester has already taken part in field classes this week. She drilled rock samples for paleomagnetic analysis, an essential technique for understanding geological formations. As part of their coursework, Ester and her classmates will continue to engage in extensive fieldwork throughout the month, further deepening their practical geology expertise.

Lectures and research presentations

: Ester’s postgraduate studies are off to a dynamic start. In her first weeks at the University of Zaragoza, she delivered her debut scientific presentation in English, showcasing her research work to her new academic peers. This marks a significant milestone in her career, demonstrating her commitment to expanding her scientific communication skills. Congratulations to Ester on this achievement!

Pioneering research in EARS

Ester Lourenço is trailblazing as the first Mozambican geologist to specialize in the East Africa Rift System (EARS). Her ongoing research is contributing valuable insights into the intricate geological landscape of Mozambique, particularly in the Gorongosa National Park region. We are eager to see the progress and impact of her work as she continues her studies.

Ester Lourenço’s journey is an inspiring example of dedication and excellence in the field of geology. We look forward to following her progress and celebrating her future achievements. Keep up the incredible work, Ester!
