My main interests are wildlife health and parasitic and infectious disease ecology, particularly in the context of primate conservation, and how this knowledge can inform both One Health and biodiversity protection.
Short Bio
Since completing my Veterinary Medicine degree at the University of Lisbon in 2018, I have worked in wildlife rehabilitation and small animal practice fields, in the United Kingdom and Portugal. In 2023, I completed a Master’s degree in Conservation Biology from the University of Évora. I am currently enrolled in the Doctoral Programme in Biodiversity, Genetics and Evolution at CIBIO-InBIO BIOPOLIS, affiliated with the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto. My research focuses on the health of the chimpanzees and gorillas of Mayombe National Park, Angola, particularly on zoonotic diseases and the respective implications for great apes’ conservation and public health. My PhD is supported by a FCT (Foundation for Science and Technology) scholarship and has been funded by the Zebra Foundation and the Primate Society of Great Britain. I work under the supervision of Prof. Paulo Gama Mota (University of Coimbra, CIBIO-InBIO BIOPOLIS), Prof. Susana Carvalho (Gorongosa National Park, CIBIO-InBIO), and Dr. Jesus Hernandez-Orts (Natural History Museum, London).
