Ester de Sousa Lourenço

Research Interests

My research focuses on the tectonics and geodynamics of the East African Rift, particularly the study of the sedimentary processes that shaped the Gorongosa region. I am interested in understanding the interactions between magmatism, deformation and topographic evolution in rift zones, and how these processes influence the evolution of the landscape and lithosphere, because in this area, unique and excellently preserved fossils are found.
My work seeks to integrate field data, structural analysis and geochronology to elucidate the geological history of this area, with implications for the understanding of continental rifts and their relationship with the geological evolution of Mozambique.

Short Bio

My name is Ester Lourenço, I am a geologist researcher with a degree from Eduardo Mondlane University, where I began my scientific career participating in an interdisciplinary project on human evolution, focusing on the main geological processes.
I am currently a candidate for a Master’s degree in Geology in Spain, where I develop research focused on the analysis of the stratigraphic, tectonic, magmatic and geochronological processes that affected the Gorongosa region, with an emphasis on the interactions between the dynamics of the East African Rift and the local geological evolution .
